Ecotourism has evolved as one of the potential tourism industry to increase foreign exchange revenues, especially in the last decade. Nearly 10% of workers in the world, working in the tourism sector and not less than 11% Gross Domestic Product (GDP) around the world come from this sector.
In Indonesia, ecotourism has contributed foreign exchange amounting to Rp. 80 trillion in 2008 with the number of foreign tourists as much as 6.5 million people. Revenue increased 33% from the year 2007 (Rp.60 trillion), where the number of foreign tourists coming to Indonesia for 5 million people.
Indonesia has the potential for beauty of natural resources, especially for ecotourism. As a form of tourism that is the trend, ecotourism has its own peculiarities that promote environmental conservation, environmental education, welfare of local residents and respect the local culture.
National park as a nature conservation area which has potential biological and natural resources are abundant ecosystem to be one part of tourism development. National park that offers ecological tours attracted many tourists, this is because of the international tourism paradigm shift from forms of mass tourism (mass tourism) to the tourism special interest tourism.
Ecotourism growth expected more rapid than other kind of tourism, especially during the last few years made a significant tourism campaign, because the state does not promote its natural attractions are likely to lose opportunities in the tourism market continues to grow.
Indonesia it self has a Conservation Area 530 units consisting of 245 Nature Reserve units, 77 units of Wildlife, National Park 50 units, 123 units of Natural Park, 21 Forest Park units and 14 units of Buru Park.
